In regards to the strong winds, she said, “Whether that played a role in the accident … investigators will determine.”
Carl Shilcutt, an airport official, told the ABQ Journal that the wind was blowing at around 55 miles per hour.

Witnesses told Eyewitness News television in New Mexico that the family was believed to have been from San Antonio, Texas. The plane was registered to Verhalen Flyers Inc. in Scottsville, Texas, according to the FAA. The destination of the plane is not known.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are sending personnel to investigate the incident.
John Nelly, a resident of Taos, said he saw the plane crash.

“It appeared the plane was trying to build altitude leaving the runway and caught the wind wrong and took a nosedive for the ground,” Nelly told the Taos News.
