Holly Madison Pregnancy, Pregnant Playboy model Holly Madison had her baby shower this weekend in Las Vegas, and in case you didn't get an invite, here are some note-worthy details: The theme was Valentine's Day; Madison sipped on a non-alcoholic drink called the Holly-Go-Lightly; and the mom-to-be didn't receive any gifts. Nope. No presents for baby at all.
Instead of receiving a never-ending pile of swaddling blankets, burp cloths, and sleep sacks, Holly asked that in lieu of presents, friends and family members make a donation to Baby2Baby, a charity which supplies baby gear to families in need. Reported thestir.cafemom...
Sweet, right? But what about the friends and family members who really wanted to buy Holly swaddling blankets, burp cloths, and sleep sacks?
What Holly did was kind, no question about that. But here's something I realized after not only having a kid of my own, but after watching friends and family members of mine have babies: People love buying babies presents. Plain and simple.
My registry wasn't very elaborate. In fact, I copied the majority of the items on it from two of my friends' registries. And I reiterated to my sister, and cousins, and aunts over and over and over again that I did not want any superfluous stuff -- my apartment was too small, and to be honest, I wanted to pick out my own onesies, dolls, pictures, etc. I wanted to keep things simple.
No one listened.
The day of my shower, I received countless stuffed animals, dresses, and random baby blankets I never once asked for. And I love them.
Is everything the exact style I would have chosen? That would be a no. But I love that my daughter has a special gift from all the important people in my/her life. She's too young to understand now, but I look forward to the day that she asks for the doll "from Aunt Katie".
Like I said, of course what Holly did was generous and lovely and altruistic, but I'm sure some of her guests were disappointed that they didn't get to buy the little bundle of joy something sweet -- and she may regret someday that her daughter doesn't have a special blanket or something from someone she's close with.
However, there is still the delivery. And if I were a betting woman, I'd say Holly's going to need a wheelbarrow to cart all her gifts out of the hospital room.
