The star is thought to have enjoyed a romance with DiDonato for a "month or two". The pair apparently hooked up after attending the same SoulCycle spin classes in Manhattan.
DiDonato appeared in the latest annual swimsuit issue of Sports Illustrated, which came out in February.
Meanwhile, Gyllenhaal started filming for his latest movie, Prisoners, in Georgia a month ago. He will star alongside Hugh Jackman in the new thriller, which is directed by Denis Villeneuve.
Gyllenhaal's last (although relatively short-lived) high-profile relationship was with Taylor Swift. The pair split in January 2011.
