Willie Mcgee Hired

Willie Mcgee Hired, Willie McGee was hired by the St. Louis Cardinals today as a special assistant to the general manager.

According to ESPN, the former MLB great will be focused on the minor leagues. McGee, now 54, has been helping the Cardinals out at spring training this year. The Cardinals have now decided to hire McGee on as a special assistant for the 2013-14 season.......inquisitr.

General manager John Mozeliak, told STL Today:

“We are pleased to announce Willie’s return to the Cardinals organization … Willie has a wealth of experience in the game, and he is eager to pass on his observations and teachings.”

McGee definitely has a “wealth of experience.” He played in the major leagues for 18 years and the majority of that time was spent with the Cardinals. He played in St. Louis from 1982-90 and 96-99. He is among the top 10 for most games played with the Cardinals.

McGee is also in the franchise’s top ten for triples, pinch hits, and stolen bases. He was a career .295 hitter over 18 seasons.

BND reports that McGee was the National League Most Valuable Player in 1985 and won batting titles in 1985 and 1990. His 216 hits and .353 batting average are still franchise bests for switch hitters. He made four All-Star teams during his career and won three Rawlings Gold Glove awards.

McGee was also a member of the 1982 World Series championship team.
